I might choose exercise, food, completing a task, a hug or *shock horror* medication. When I am restless or anxious it is not helpful to propose ways to calm down, I need ways to get that satisfaction. As an ADHDer myself I know for a fact that my brain just doesn’t have as much of the neurotransmitter "dopamine" as most people, which means I find it harder to feel satisfied. Every emotion you experience is in fact a chemical in your brain and while neurological changes could be either a reaction to an environmental or physical stressor or a difference you are born with, both are very real. Mental health difficulties have a biological basis and cannot always be overcome by exercise, meditation and a good chat. The first rule of #TimeToTalk is to dial down the helpful advice.
